About the Artist

Cathy Bricka Giordano is a French artist who has travelled and sketched the world extensively. She's lived in South Africa for a few years, and then in Rome, Italy, and now resides in the south of France.

Her travels have nurtured her and that's probably where her taste for colour, texture and light comes from. Her love for exploring the world reflects in her art, she's always ready to experiment, always moving forward and exploring new roads.

I’m sensitive to lights, textures, moods and combination of colours, but it is difficult to pin down what exactly inspires me to start a painting. It usually begins with colours then it develops and evolves into shapes and composition. I can never be sure what the piece will end up like. I like leaving space for the painting to tell me what it needs or wants to be. It is like a conversation or a dance. My movement or my words call for a response from my partner which will in turn call for a response from me. The shapes and the colours call for patterns or lines which in turn will make me add other marks. They may then get all hidden under new layers, but they participate to this slow process of building a piece. I love knowing what lies beneath the surface, the energy, the hesitations, the words softly spoken and the silences but I’m certain it somehow transpires and helps give the piece its magic and atmosphere.
